I am book marking this for further scrutiny- (when I have finished feeding the pigs and cleaning out the hen house!😂) - I love ALL things to do with making my money work for me especially as I have so little. Some people spend money on lattes me - PIGS!!

A latte in CA will cost me 6.50 - no thanks, Cecilia. Where is that pig lol?

You are very practical. How are you, friend? I miss you .......

Happy Tuesday!

What a bloody awesome article Neela!! I think most of us have a love/hate relationship with money. Coming from none and growing up in somewhat poverty, I have a healthy respect for every buck I earn and try to stay grounded, while also spoiling my family and myself at times. My observation has generally been, those with a scarcity mindset tend to attract the same for the reasons you so brilliantly point out! At the risk of being melodramatic, we can often ponder on how the homeless end up where they are (which in itself can be the result of a myriad of causes) but as we see, even the most successful can lose everything in a heartbeat if they make some bad choices! I love your 30 day challenge!! Did I mention how brilliant your article is Sis?

YES indeed - The most successful can lose everything. When I lived in Trinidad we were friendly with a guy who lived on the streets. His ONLY fault was that he left his house in his children's name. They quickly put him out and claimed the house as their own. The kindest guy ever.

Thank you so much bro. I am trying to dig deeper with these articles so this makes me very happy.

One of your best articles ever Neela - research mixed with practical advice - I liked the future thinking involved in asking for a raise.

Money is a fragile thing and easily eroded or lost - which often happens to those who can least afford to lose it

This is so true. I am trying to resurrect a lot of these concepts and studies. So much of what we discuss is not new, but perspective is. Thank you so much David. Appreciate you.

There is a TON of information packed in here, and without wanting to make my comment a novel that might in some small way detract from the brilliance of each of these perspectives I will simply say, well done, Neela Singh. JK. I could almost see your head shifting to one side as you said Chason?

Love the historical perspectives and lessons. Money can't buy happiness. Financial planning, creating and sticking to budgets is important. Preparing yourself for the unknowns can save you a lot of anxiety.

Preparing for the unknowns, knowing fully well even that is slightly blurred.

I will try to add more historical references because I love them.

Thank you so much Chason :)

This is so insightful, Neela, thank you. It's interesting to consider how some of us never seem to reach a point where we have enough to be satisfied, especially when it comes to money. It's like we get enough to cover the 'basics', then once we reach that point, we suddenly create a new list of things we NEED to buy. So that creates more pursuit of money and more stress. At some point we have to allow ourselves an exit from the hamster wheel. Thank you for helping us see the light, Neela.

I liberated myself from that hamster wheel, and it's been an amazing experience ever since.

Truth be told, I embrace a minimalistic way of living. Everything I own is practical, and we didn't buy into the hype of investing in things like a house or high-end cars. I have no quarrels with people who love that stuff, but it's not us. Happy Tuesday Mack...

The 30 day challenge is a fantastic idea. I did that for the 1st 6 months of operating my business. I was surprised how quickly it added up. It’s good to do periodically.

Excellent post

What an incredible article here Neela! Thank you for writing it.

Neuroscientists also found out that spending money is painful. Literally.

The same pain you feel when you hit your toe into the table, you feel it when spending money. This also partially explains why poor people tend to buy more candies or other temporary wellness providers.

Amazing, is it?

I believe that - is that why my toe is permanently damaged? lol

Just kidding. I appreciate you taking the time Florian :)

Brilliant article, Neela. 👏👏

The fear of restricted access to our needs and wants when we think about losing money is very crippling. We don’t want to feel helpless and powerless. I think that makes some of us chase money.

It’s fascinating to watch people who would risk losing money. Businessmen take calculated risk while the gamblers go crazy with it.

Waiting 24 hrs when we have 24/7 access to Amazon sounds challenging 😂

It's addictive; Salima and Alexa don't make it any easier.

Neela you make such good content!

This month I had already challenged myself to track all my expenses and income--but I'll be adopting your augmented challenge for August!

That last challenge about taking one concrete step to monetize a skill--I never thought of doing that...sounds like such good advice.
